Incorporating aids for the Vision Impaired, in indoor and outdoor construction is not only good practice, but has become mandatory in the Australian Building Code and Public Access Disability Standards. Tactile ground surface indicators are laid to adequately guide pedestrians whilst traversing road-crossings, ramps, stairs and the public infrastructure. An estimated 380,000 people in Australia currently suffer from blindness and are legally vision impaired. These statistics will double as a result of the aging population.

The Hazard Tactile Surface Indicator
Consists of a precise matrix of raised roundel shaped nodes. These will define a hazard zone, from a safe area. When two or more tactile indicator groups are installed perpendicular to each other, this will define a recommended line of travel.
The Directional Tactile Surface indicator
Consists of an in-line series of raised barbell-shaped nodes. These are strategically laid to indicate the recommended direction of safe travel.
